Jenny Bee

Hi, I’m Jenny Bee. I am passionate about supporting new families in the postpartum period. I serve in Montreal and surrounding areas as well as the Laurentians.

 

My passion to help new parents during this important time, was ignited after the birth of my second child. I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. It was the most challenging time of my life to date. I was absolutely exhausted and didn’t have nearly enough support. Even though it was my second time around, it was a completely new experience for me.

 

I left my career as a journalist and trained as a Yoga Therapist, focusing specifically on prenatal, postnatal and children’s yoga. I had already been working as a Birth Doula since 2011, and in 2016, I joined Sylvia at Rock the Cradle. I gained so much experience under her wing as a postpartum doula and realized quite quickly that that is where my heart is. 

People often wonder what a postpartum doula does. I suppose we’re all different, but what I tell people is, I do everything but change the cat litter! 

 

In the early days, my job is usually to help get feeding rolling. Mika and I do not have an agenda when it comes to your birth or parenting decisions. We are there to support you and your choices every step of the way. That said, most often I help with breastfeeding in the early days, but I am also there to help with pumping, mixed feeding and full-on formula feeding if that is the direction you choose to go in. If your breastfeeding issues are out of my scope, we have a lovely network of trustworthy IBCLCs that we refer to.

 

As your postpartum doula, I am there to answer any questions you have about your new baby and your own self as a new parent. I can help with baby’s first bath. I can help you figure out how to use your baby carrier, if you’ve put baby’s diaper on properly, how to take care of those itty bitty baby nails. I am there to guide you, support you and reassure you.

I also happen to love to cook. I can pick up groceries, follow recipes, or just throw together a meal based on what you happen to have in the fridge.

 

And I won’t leave your kitchen messy when I’m done. I’m not a full-on housecleaner, but as I said, I do what needs to be done, and often load and unload dishwashers, hand wash what’s left in the sink, and give the place a nice sweep!

 

Sometimes I fold your laundry.

 

Often, I hold baby so that you can go take a nap, a shower, or a breath of fresh air.

 

My experience as a massage therapist and postnatal yoga teacher often also comes in handy.

 

I usually have an inkling of what you want, or need, but if I don’t, all you need to do is ask, and I got your back.
